Give us the specifics of your set-up. Bass model, amp model and wattage... that type of thing. Oh... and welcome to Bassdogs. Very Happy

Teh he...

Could merely be your attack style (how you're hitting the strings). Don't worry too much about it. It'll mellow. I still TAGH TAGH every now and then when excited. If you're playing slap, you'll want that 'percussive' sound that the TAGH TAGH gives as you develop in your style.
As for slap and tapping, practice is the only way.
Watch as many bass players as you can, and copy their techniques. Some will feel comfortable, some will feel as alien as Neptune. You'll find the one for you.
Tapping rocks. Get a hold of 'Victor Wooten's' DVD of Bass Day '98. He gives the best lesson on tapping. It opened up a whole new world for me, and I've been playing for about 15 years.
As for slap, Stanley Clarke, Michael Manson, Bootsy Collins, Prince (especially the early stuff), and of course, Victor Wooten (my new hero).
