I just bought one 3 days ago. Best buy for the money I've seen in a long time. Really versatile sound out of the sucker . . .sweet! I say definitely go for it!, Very good looking bass, as well. Mine's in Dolphin Grey, with fret markers--I think it's the not for export version, but the black one is pretty hip, too.

Anybody got a good suggestion for a small amp to use around home? I'm living in Japan, so small is key, and I don't want to blow the neighbors ears out, but I want something that gives me some punch at low volume. . .

I adore mine. I have the black with cream binding style w/o a pickguard and strat style output.
Fender Japan is very consistent in their quality and I wouldn't hesitate this bass to anyone. Great feel, great look, great tone. Could maybe use a pickup and bridge upgrade, but the stock are just fine.
