aww man, you don't need 3 or 4 fingers for that, two is just fine for any metallica song, and if ur in good shape one finger is fine too (although maybe not for battery or something, that's a two fingerer)

This is true.
If one listens closely to Burton on some songs, Battery in particular, you can hear kind of (what I can only describe as) a sort of galloping bass strum created with his first three fingers. There's also footage I remember seeeing of him using four fingers as well.

In the Cliff Em All vid they have this solo of him playing For Whom the Bell Tolls where he lays down this incredibly sick solo, and he only uses like 2 fingers. However, that being said, You'd have to practice 10 hours a day for several years to get any of his lines down on just 2 fingers. Maybe Four Horsemen would be a little easier than the rest of his lines, but if you wanted to play Anesthesia,For Whom the Bell Tolls,Orion,Call of Ktulu etc you'd have to use 3 or 4 fingers.

I can play For Whom The Bell Tolls and Orion with 2 fingers and have only been playing about 5 months, I even used to play them with one finger when I first started Confused
