So yea, I met the VP of Gibson guitars yesterday. Talked to him for quite awhile. Reminds me of an American Paul McCartney. Figures he grew up in my area and was a judge for the North American Rock Guitar Festival yesterday, and i had special passes. Anyway out of everyone there he kept coming back to me, and when it seemed a bit strange, he smiled and said, "sorry I'm very partial to bass players."

Yeah, Gibson seems to care little about basses or the quality of the ones they make. I hear so many stories about poor quality basses that come out of Gibson.
They have two classic and unique basses in my opinion. The Thunderbird and the EB-3/0. They stopped making EB's, with birds, they do not do custom colors or figured woods. They do not care. Have you ever looked close at a Blackbird? I saw one at Guitar Center years ago on clearance for $499!
The paint was lumpy. The grain was not sealed correctly in places. Just awful! Now they sell for about $1200 on the bay. If only I had known!

I am not very impressed with the Blackbirds. I played one a while back and saw and heard nothing special. Vintage Gibson is the only way to go for basses.
