hey everyone, ive been reading all of your posts for a while but ive been too lazy to get a photo of my les paul for everyone to see.God sent it to me at a pawn shop for $500, its a miracle! also im not too sure of exactly what model it is, i hear its an lp special. it has active bartolini's and its not a hollow body (weighs a ton too), but thats about all i know about it so any info on it would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, Welcome to Bassdogs!

Secondly, nice username. Are you looking forward to the new Weezer DVD? I'll probably get it the week its released.

About your bass - It reminds me of of the Gibson Les Paul Standard, except that it doesn't have Creme binding around the body (that I can see from your picture) and the knobs appear to be a slightly different color than the amber top-hats that come on a Standard (am I seeing the picture incorrectly?). I think what you have is equivalent to a Les Paul Studio, as opposed to a Standard.

Ask Gibby when he comes around, he'll know for sure. I'm a Fender guy, personally, so I can only help so much. Razz

Anyway, glad to have you aboard. Cool

Never mind.... I found it. All is revealed.....

Your bass is most definitely NOT the Les Paul Special. The Les Paul Special has dot inlays. It's probably a cheaper model, hence the "Special" moniker.

Yours is the Les Paul Deluxe. Check out the photo and specs on that baby. Ebony fretboard, trap inlays, Bartolini's, Heritage Cherry sunburst, black hardware and control knobs.... it's gotta be it.

Both the Special and the Deluxe are listed under Models Discontinued for 1998 on Gibson's website, so your Deluxe must be a bit older than that. Congrats on a pretty sweet axe. Cool

Ha! Detective Beowulf is on the case. Mr. Green

Check out my links and you'll see that the Deluxe does indeed have Bartolini's. Of course, you'll also want to make note that it's been discontinued, so you'll have to pick up one that's used....

Nice! Enjoy the bassage. Post more pics if you got 'em.

You should hang around and get to know Gibby. He's got a thing for Gibson basses (understatement of the year). He's a cool guy and he's really knowledgable. Smile
