Just played a Ric for the first time the other day (4001 in Fireglo). They are MUCH more beautiful in person than in pics. Shocked I see what all the hype is about. It played beautifully.

Couple cons, the neck is a little too round for me, and I am still not sure what I think of the laquered fretboard.

I like fat necks, but it is all in taste. Congradulations on trying your first ric.

It must have been calling to you Very Happy. I'm a wide neck fan myself, round feels like playing a shovel handle. And I'm undecided on the laquered fretboards too. If it extends the life of it, I guess I can't complain ^_^.

I don't like the laquered fret board. It seems harder to move around on.

Just trying. I have wanted one, but I actually just "stumbled" upon this one when I wasn't even looking. The Fireglo finish just took my breath away.

As I recall, it was just a standard cream binding on the body. I could be way off here. I remember that the neck had a layer of something in between the fretboard rosewood and the actual neck wood, which kind of surprised me. Do all Rics have that?

Mine does. I'm pretty sure all the 4003s do. 4004s don't and some reissue 4001s don't.

i have been playing my ric for over 23 years now it was my first guitar and my dad's first bass and it has been used every night for almost 30 years now and it only has i scratch and some funky wire problms but other than that in great condition. The 1979 ricenbacker 4001 IS the BEST bass ever made i love mine and it will last you if you buy it!
