I've played Ernie Balls, rotosounds, D'Darios, DR's, flats, rounds, lights, heavies, signatures artist strings, u name it....and my favroite strings i've come across are Rotosound .45 Roundwounds.....they're .45 but they're still pretty loose compared to like D'Darios and i like a low action so it's nice, although just the way they feel and sound....i play a lot of metal and rock and for speed palyign they feel nice....if i was playig with a pick in a punk band though, i'd use D'Darios though................I like rotosound flatwounds too, like Steve Harris's, the tension on them is high and forget slapping but it's worth it....anyone else agree?

I'm currently looking around for new brands. D'addario Halfies, for the fretless, and Dean Markley Blue Steels, for my 5er, no longer come in stainless steel. They have opted to go with a nickel blend instead which sound a little more mellow. I prefer the zing of steel. It's easier to EQ out the "edge" of steel than it is to EQ zing into nickel.

Am trying out LaBella Super Steps for the 5er and GHS Brite groundwounds for the fretless. I don't know why these companies dropped their SS lines - I was vry happy with these strings. Being a dbl Taurus I hate change.

Also will be trying various brands of flatwounds for the Ricky just cuz I should try some flats on a fretted bass, like McCartney. Keeping the Rotosounds on the P bass - can't beat this combo!

peace y'all!!

I mean to each his own and everyone has there own preference, but I love how hot Elixirs sound when you put them on and they sound so good for so long! I love them! I do wanna try some clear tones though, they're both spendy but they're worthit!

all you people and your ernie balls... do you like you bass to sound cheap? really? if a case of beer costs more than my strings they are not going on any bass of mine. i'll go hungry and get some elixirs or dr black beauties. rotosounds are nice as well. but you can't beat elixirs. they are so worth the money. but if you are going with EB's you are punishing your bass..

This indeed.

I personally can't stand EBs either.

I've had terrific luck with every string set that I've tried from Ken Smith.
The rock masters series in particular are extremely noteworthy. They offer short, medium and long scale but no flats I'm afraid. For those I tend to gravitate toward GHS brite flats or Chromes.

Probably because they're hard to come by. None of the music stores in my region carry DR strings... I'm not sure if that's a common issue though. The only way I can get them is to order them online.

GHS Boomers, Mediums on my 5, custom guages on my 6. Tried tons of others, and nothing else gives me what I want or feels right to me.
