Check this out:
eBay auction
I'm always suspicious when a seller doesn't even know the model of the instrument he's selling. Anyway, I went to epiphone.com to check it out. My first guess was that it was an EB-3 because of the double-pickup config. The EB-3 however, has TRAPEZOID inlays. It's not an EB-0 (that I can tell) because it's got that second pickup. Did Epi at one point make EB-3s with dot inlays? I've been playing detective for an hour and no luck.
Any ideas? PS - This is not a Gibson vs. Epiphone thread. I don't give a crap. |

I thought it might be an Elitist EB-3 (those have dot inlays and bridge pup) but that doesn't fit, either.
The Elitist has 20 frets and our mystery axe has 22.... the plot thickens.... |

Its not an elite, just a regular Epi EB-3 ebony... $399.00 - brand new... Cherry regular EB-3`s have trapazoid inlays & the ebony eb-3`s have dot inlays & both regulars sport a 34" scale = 22 frets --==-- the elite EB-3`s (cherry & ebony) have dot inlays & 30.5" scale = 20 frets, just like the original 60`s Gibson EB-3. I wouldnt pay the price he`s asking on it... save your dinero & buy an original or find a better deal on an Epi. Thar be scratches on that thar Epi. _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

Oh, I gotcha. Ok, it makes sense now... I was just thrown because I never heard of a company offering different fretboard inlays for different finish options. That's kind of unique.
Also, I'm wondering why they don't offer an Elitist EB model with 34" scale. I don't have the money to buy any new axes right now, but I'm sure if I were in the market for an EB, I'd make sure it was a 34. |

| As a side note, the seller doesn't know the model number because the bass is probably *cough* stolen *cough*. |

for the elite series, I believe theyve only come out with the original 30.5" short scale, but If you want the 34" scale, Id check out the original EB-3L`s or the EB-0L`s... 34" scale vintage thunder Lemme do some checking on `da `bay & show you one or two of em... _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

There are pickup switches on many different instruments.
Thanks, Gibby! I hate to say it, but I think I actually like the look of the modern Epi EB-3s a bit more. Looks aren't everything, but they help.
Incidentally, I don't want to pay for the original bass that I posted, so I asked the guy if he would accept a trade-in. He said "no".... hence, I lose another opportunity for a new axe. S'ok, though. I'll be patient. |

bummer, Beo! one will come to ya man...this one wasnt meant to be... BTW The switch was for coil splitting, taking the coils in/out of phase... kinda cool AND useless... _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

Incidentally, those vintage basses MIGHT be kind of pricey depending on who you're buying them from. The first and third auctions you posted are both going for about 700 bucks (not too bad, but still more than I've got) and if I want to bid on the third one, I better brush up on my German.

yeah, those were bad examples for affordable Gibsons... first one is an EB-0L, kinda rare & the others were EB-4L`s - very rare... not your everyday EB`s... _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |
