| Any advice on how to play Fingerstyle really fast, like for playing thrash metal. I'm a good fingerstyle player but i'm lacking speed. |

just sit there for an hour fingering your bass as fast as you can till you cant take the pain anymore or the world ends. _________________ Warwick Corvette Standard 6string

If you must, grow our your fingernails and use your pointer as a pick. It's the same style as if you were holding a plectrum, but you use your nail instead.
But practice with the fingers, otherwise they'll never get tough. _________________ Alright!

| Mine are tough because I fingerpick on guitar. I'm not sure I like it, it's like rhino skin or something, not much feeling there! |

the guy wanted to know how to play fast fingerstyle, not how to grow his nail to make a second rate pick lol the only advice i can give u buddy is that if u want to play really fast fingestyle then u simply start playing progressively faster. u may realise that when u are playing really fast u get a cramp up ur rist. make sure u stay relaxed in the rist and fingers as well as u can and ur speed should increase as ur strentgh does _________________ rock on! |

| I play slow using fingers on bass because I only use two fingers. The fast bass players use three. |

the three finger technique, and all it's variations, are really efective.
but you must be very disciplined with your studying, not letting any flaws keep up. _________________ Flaviullllll |

Get a metranome unless you have a drum machine, start off slow and contiune to increase the speed over time. It won't come fast. All good things take time.

Try using fingerpicks, because they're not just for guitarists, and they work very well for bass also!
You'll get a nice crisp pick tone with your fingerstyle pluckin'!
There are fingerpicks made from many different materials, but I prefer the brass 'cause they really last a long time, and they don't slip off of the fingertips since you can adjust how tight you want them to fit.

A lot of metal players use picks. I would rather see someone use their fingers instead of resorting to such desperate measures
If you 'pluck' the strings, then it's just a matter of practice (as it would be any other style. I don't think you need to use more than two fingers. I don't, and I can put down hemi-semi quavers without missing a beat. I'm sure over time, you could get to a stage where hemi-semi-demi quavers are just a warmup! _________________ Alright!

I used to play classical/flemenco guitar, and one thing you learn is how to play fast finger style!!! their are a few tips and pointers i can share with you. Certain patterns(pluckPattens) can genarate differant speeds/ accents on certain notes/beats. All of your fingers have differant Sounds/Strengh's so figure out what you want out of it. i personaly use a Flemenco Tremolo where you start with you Index,RING,MIDDLE.Index. It gives it a very cool gallop and can increse your speed very much. Bottom line Practice your *Horse's Patoot* off...... _________________ MELLOW, kiiity come home for me for mother?!? |

| Hey, thanks for the tip, I've been doing index, mid, ring and it just doesn't do it for me. I'll try ind, ring, mid, I bet that willl help get the flow down! |
