Has anyone dared to put on of those two millimetre thick pieces of metal they're trying to flog off as bass picks on their strings?
I saw one about three years ago, and I thought, 'not a chance'. Then the other day when I was thinking about putting a gold plated bridges and tuning keys on my bass (why, I don't know! I kicked myself and promised to never think such pointless things again!), I saw the same thing that no one bought three years ago, only bigger and heavier!
It seriously look like an old piece of machine gun shaped to look like a plectrum! Someone pondered on it and thought, "Bass players will buy these!"
Not this little black duck! _________________ Alright!

I got a thumb pick I use for guitar, it sounds really clangy and sloppy on bass. Metal picks just shouldn't be used on bass .
And I think you're right, that sounds like a quick way to go through a set of strings (and scuff up the finish on the bass if you play hard). |

I don't want to enter the whole "pick vs. fingers" issue, except to say this. Stylistically and very generally speaking, playing with a pick is more appropriate to punk than playing with your fingers. The whole punk thing, in my opinion at least, emerged at least in part as a kind of antithesis to the art rock of the time with its focus on virtuosity, and also the disco thing. As such, really learning to play one's instrument properly was not punk's main focus. Instead, punk was about attitude and getting out there and thrashing away, and the hell with anyone who didn't like it.
So, to play punk, and perhaps even metal, play with a pick. However, the one thing I would add is don't play with a pick because you don't know how to use your fingers. Learn to do both, and then decide which is more appropriate for a particular tune.

You can use fingerpicks and thumb picks to get a good pick sound fingerstyle!
I play guitars also, so I tried fingerpicks and a thumbpick out on my bass one day just out of curiousity, and it worked very well, and sounded very good to me!
You have to get used to the slipperier feeling of picks on your fingers, but I got used to it pretty quickly myself, so try it if you're a fingerstyle player and see what you think of it!
It's a good option for a different sound for us fingerstyle guys! |

My brother plays guitar, so there are always picks lying around the house. I'm not as good at picking as fingerstyle, but I work on it sometimes. I also like to jam out some bass chords _________________ Hey. |

Yea play with which ever is better for you, but mostly in Punk they use a pick and in metal they usually use fingers, I use both just to keep things interesting, but mostly use fingers _________________
