I can pretty much play anything put in front of me (so long as it aint too quick, or contain slap!!) and i've learned my major and minor scales (not bad as I've only been playing just over 2 months!!), but what is the normal progression route after scales? What comes next?

My theory side is pretty good as I played violin for 4 years as a kid (amazing what you can remember with a quick refresher eh Very Happy ), i'm just a bit stuck now.

Any thoughts Ninestring? You seem to be the spreader of wisdom on this side of things Exclamation Exclamation

maybe work on modes(Dorian, Ionian etc...), arpeggios(augmented, dimenished, major, minor etc...) and since you memorized your minor and major scales try doing your 7th scales and stuff like that.

.....ummm not too sure what you mean by modes?!?!??!

Are they just different scales? Could anyone point me to a web site that would maybe explain this?

Modes are efficient ways to play the scales on the fretboard. At least that is how I understand it.
