How are carvin amps? I found a head that puts out 1000 watts for my avatar
Or I could get one of their cabs. They have a stack for $1300 with shipping, and I'm actually thinking about getting it... so much money though. _________________ Hey. |

Carvin makes good gear, and the 1000 watt head is pretty nice with a tube/solid state preamp, and lots of EQ types to tweak tones with.
I'm not as fond of their bass speaker cabs though because you'd really need one of their 118 cabs to push the lows of most companies 115 cabs, and their 410 cab alone doesn't have enough low end with only 60hz-16000khz range.
Carvins big rig with the 410/118 is a good full range bass rig together like that, and the price is hard to beat for such a powerful full range bass rig.
Unless you're going to get the Carvin 1000 watt big stack deal with the 410/118 cabs , then I think that buying the Carvin head and using it with Avatar cabs sounds like it would make a better bass rig for the money.
Remember that you really need a cab with a frequency range of about 30hz-15000khz for a 5 or 6 string bass with a low B string, and a cab with about 40hz-15000khz for a 4 string bass for full range coverage. |

| Carvin cabs are very well built, modestly priced and sound just horrible...stick with Avatar cabs. Carvin amps in my opinion and experience are a gamble. Their 1000 watt amps (bass head and power amp) don't like to be pushed hard at their rated impedance level (bridged@4ohms) and tend to overheat. When it's time to repair a Carvin, it has to go back to Carvin which can be damned inconvenient. If you're looking for entry level quality, then Carvin can get you by, but I wouldn't depend on it for a living. |

Do you have any reccomendations for a head to go with an avatar cab? Can't cost too much, but I want good quality. _________________ Hey. |

I'm not sure if I want to spend that much, but I'll think about it. I can't get a job for another 9 months _________________ Hey. |

Well I'm pretty sure I want the avatar cab. Now I'm looking for a head 200-500 range. _________________ Hey. |

I didn't say I wanted that many watts... that was the carvin amp, because the least they had was 1000, but the amount of watts doesn't really matter, as long as it's good quality. _________________ Hey. |

i dont think ur getting the point... if you use like a 300 watt head on a 1200 watt cab your going to get a hell of a lot of amp clipping. you need to get a head powerful enough to push most of those 1200 watts. and tahts the prob. a head with 1000+ watts costs well over 1 grand. _________________ The few. Only if you turn the amp up to the point where it starts clipping. With a little care and common sense it'll be fine. If it starts to clip, turn it down. |
