Double stop: Sounding two notes at the same time.
A common one is to play a high octave, and also the 5th below. Key of G, we play the 12th fret of the G string (G), and at the same time we are holding, and playing the 12 fret of the D string. This double stop will serve as a little G chord (major or minor), among other uses.
Play that high D (12 fret), and also the 14th fret of the G string (A). Now you have a sweet sounding little D chord. I use my thumb on the lower string, and my middle finger on the higher string. The thumb strums down as the finger pulls up.
There are many permutations, experiment...
