Well, all I can guess is that they aren't good enough players or they don't practice enough. When improviseing you need to know your instrament. _________________ Sometimes we ride on your horses

i think of improv as fun........ it should be easy fun stuff.
Since most music we all like to play is based on scales/chords/progressions /songs- we have to keep all the elements in mind.
if you take the I-IV_V progression ,like blues. first you need to know the Blues scale. You've heard it countless time.
start on any note play it. now count up 4 frets and play the note ( a minor 3rd from the first note).
here's the pattern"
String: 2nd fret 4th fret
G---------|-----------|-----------|--------------
D-------X-- |-----------|------X--|-------
A------X---|-------X--|--------X-- |--------
E------X---|-----------|------------ | X-------|
1st finger 2nd finger 3rd finger 4th finger
play these note any way you want.Have fun!-you'll find you'll discover all kinds of things you already know
when you are ready ,move the pattern up and start on the A string ,and for the V chord ,slide to the right two frets and play the same pattern. Just play around. You'll come up with some very cool thing you'll want to do again,
Every chord comes from one of the 9 chord families, and each chord has a corresponding scale that make everything sound good. _________________ Garry Goodman
