What I am saying is that those Ibanez have no resale value if any. If you want to buy one than fine, marry it so you don't lose a lot of money.

The bass you posted is a "B" series Ergodyne. I've played an "A" series in the store.... read all about it:

Sorry I don't have more experience with that particular model, but Luthite basses probably sound similar.

I have a friend who plays in a death metal band and he told me he had one of the Ergodyne basses and really liked it. The reviews seem to be mixed, but generally people seem to like them for heavy rock/metal/punk type stuff. I have an Ibanez bass (SR300) and like others say, they lose value from new quick, but if you buy it used like I did, you can usually get them for 1/2 the new price and they hold that value well.

I own a Cort Curbow series 5-string. It is a luthite body bass. My ex-girlfriend bought it for me about 2-1/2 years ago, while I was playing in a hardcore/thrash band. With the exception of the nut bieng a "C"-hair off to the left, it is an incredible instrument (sound, playability, looks, etc.) for the price. A the time it sold for $400. The only other difficulty I have with it is, it's very hard to play sitting down because of the akward shape. It's also very vesitle in that, I've also played jazz and funk with it. I would check one of these out before wasting money on an Ibanez. I say that because I've bought an SR400 and an SR405 and they both fell apart on me within a month of purchase.

Hey, Slick...
My dad owns this bass. I usually use it when I jam with him.
It is very solid, has great tone. I am pretty sure that Robert Trujillo (formerly with Ozzy/currently with Metallica) plays one. It has a nice thin neck.

"Wood-lovers" (or Luth-o-phobes, if you will) are prejudiced against anything that is not made of wood. This is actually the reason I wouldn't buy it. Looks great, plays great, but I'm looking for that nice burled walnut or some deep wood. The pencil-lead look doesn't do it for me......

I've been reading reviews of the Cort Curbow basses and they get really good reviews - and they look a bit different too! It makes a change from every manufacturer trying to copy the J & P basses - why don't you check them out? Ibanez are just too anonymous thats why they have dismal resale values Razz

Just be careful to keep a luthite bass protected from any big changes in temperature as they are very succeptable to damage from very cold or very hot temperatures much more tham wood is.

One bassist at another forum had his luthite bodied bass break in half from the string tension pulling on it while it was being shipped by truck where it had reached freezing temperatures inside the unheated truck!

They are perfectly fine basses as long as you keep them protected from the cold and heat, so don't fear buying a luthite bass as long as you're going to take good care of it!

Luthite bodies also tend to project a lot of mids, so the pickups are designed to compensate for that and balance out the mids.

G'day

I am very interested in the curbow basses. I have seen a few good reviews on the net + on a website of a huge vegas guitarshop, the owner gave them 6 out of 7 stars.... (www.edromanguitars.com)

My main concern is I'm not sure which type of music this bass is suited to. My main favourites are comprised of heavy-melodic/punk/hard rock/rock...
I don't really want to play much which would go beyond Db tuning...

Any advice is much appreciated.
