Hi there all...
Im a bass player from new zealand (way down below Australia for all those who don't know!) and Im looking at importing a peaver cirrus 6 string bass. I play most styles except thrash metal or anything like that...tool is my limit...though jazz\funk\soul is where its at form me if I had the choice! My playing would honestly have to be described as marcus miller (mildly!) meets paul denman from Sade. anyway my problem is that if I import one of these cool basses from peavey through the local dealer over here, i will be under an obligation to buy it! So im just seeking a little help for any of you out there who could recommend what particular model to get (in terms of the wood used in the construction).
There are two choices for me really, Either the Maple neck\alder body\flame maple top model; or the walnut neck\bubinga top one. All the options are on the peavey website, but im just concerned with what wood sounds best.
I have a Spector NS2 5 string bass which is all maple with a rosewood fretboard and EMG-HZ pickups which is great-its is really bright and the EMG's make it really tight with a growly low-end. I would assume that if this would be the similar case of the tonality of the maple option for the peavey. The walnut\bubinga peavey is said to have quite a pronounced midrange frequency which may be a better option (?) considering I already have a bass made out of maple?? In any case i want the 6 string mainly for figer stlye playing as im satisfied with my slap tone on the Spector.
So are there any recomendations for my predicament??!!It would be a supreeme help to me if I could have some advice about which would is better/preferred by all you experienced professionals!
Many thanks for your help and discussion

You can order your Peavey Cirrus through the Bass Northwest store, and they ship worldwide.

I know this topic is a little old and my feedback is probably too late for urbanfunkmaster but for the next person thinking about peavey basses.
They are not for everyone, just like any guitar that you purchase you should play it, not just hear someone else play it. Though the high end peavey's have a remarkable sound I found that the neck is a little tuff to play for my style and probably for most others as well. They seemed to have a very very high curve radius for the neck which made the almost too flat. It almost felt as if the entire neck was square and on top of that the entire neck was too skinny back to fretboard and disproportionate to the overall width from top to bottom.
But if you can get used to playing on that type of neck the Cirrus and the other higher end peavey's have a real top notch sound almost equal to basses twice their price. _________________ www.mountainfever.com
