| I found a new-old stock EB-650 and I kind of like it, odd thing that it is. Anyone know anything about these or even own one? They're a single cutaway, diamond f-holes, made till about 1995 with two screaming humbuckers. This thing really puts out! |

You don't see any of those around much anymore, and it's kind of a collectors item these days.
Pretty cool find you have there!

Thanks guys. I'm really on the fence about this bass. It sounds great and I even like the looks of it. Since it's around 12 years old, the nitro has begun to check a little, but this bass has never been sold, the deal has been holding it all this time. So, the only aging on it is natural. No playing time!
My problem is I'll probably sell one of my other basses to buy it. I have Gretsch Broadkaster that I love, but the 30" short scale just doesn't have the bottom end thump I'd like. You just can't beat a 34" bass for tonality. I played the EB today through an Ampeg rocket bass amp and the sound was immense, tons of bottom. Those pickups are fantastic! And the neck, though a little chunky, feels great.
So, my dilemma is what to sell to finance this bass. Might be the Gretsch or a Ric, depends. Either way, this bass definitely has some potential. I'm gonna sleep on it over night! |

its not scale length that matters! *Gibby defends his mighty EB-0*
but, I would love too add one of those beauties to my collection! _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

I agree, the short scale has always been a favorite of mine too, but lately I've been playing my 2 Fender p and Ric basses a lot more and really liking the feel and different tones I get from the longer strings. So, making room in my collection will be a hard choice if I decide to go for this bass. GAS is a challenge for sure!
By the way, I had 2 EB, an 0 and and 3, great basses too, I just couldn't get used to the head-heavy necks. |

I'm inclined to agree. I love the sound and look of Gibson's Mighty Midgets, but I don't know if I could get used to the shorter length. It would just feel weird in my hands. I like the Gibsons a lot, though, so maybe a T-bird is what I need.
I love T-birds. One day I'll own one. |

| I agree, the T-Bird is a great bass for sure. I played a black one just like the pic you posted at the local GC and it sounded pretty good. I do think the EB-650 I'm considering sounds a bit better. Maybe it's those older pickups! |

as far as Gibson`s concerned...I think the more vintage, the better the sound! My dream is to one day own Jack Bruces EB-3(givin to him by Felix Pappalardi) and a 50`s EB-1(violin shaped)...mmmmm....vintage... _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

| I'm putting together a web site and will post when I get it set up. Been playing this bass everyday and it's really a fantastic sounding and playing instrument. Better than it sounded in the store even! |
