I've been playing 5string almost exclusively for the past 2 years, after 20 years on 4string, and I can't imagine ever getting tired of it. It gives me much more flexibility, and you just can't beat that low C!
BTW, many years ago I played a Gibson bass just like the one pictured, and the E string had absolutely no sustain at all. It belonged to my rhythm guitarist at the time, so maybe it was just that the setup was wrong, but I haven't picked one up since. |

Six is my preference, but I wouldn't show up anywhere without a four! For the more simple slap, a four is all you need, but six gives you much more flexibility... _________________ Alright!

it would be ideal to have 7 strings, cuz masters are fuhking awesome with any groove on taht type of thing, but i'm working my way slowly from a four string level to a five string level first

| I play 5-string for a couple of reasons. I do occasionaly need the lower notes, the width of the neck and string spacing is more comfortable to me, and the fifth string makes a good anchor when I'm hitting the other strings. I am considering re-stringing to E-A-D-G-C. Has anyone tried this and how much more flexibility do you get? |

I play a 6 string Yamaha TRB6P bass, so consider this Aaron.
You've already said that you do use the low B on your 5 string sometimes, and now you are thinking of what a high C string would do for you, right?
It seems to me that the best of both worlds is there in a 6 string bass, since it has both a low B and a high C string, so why don't you just get a 6 string bass!?
Playing a 6 string might be a bit of a pain to play if you're a pick player because of open string muting concerns, but if you play fingerstyle then it won't be a problem for you to switch over from the 5 string bass you're playing now.
Just my thoughts here, so good luck with whatever you choose to play in the future, and yes there are plenty of bassists that string their 5 string basses EADGC. |

Four is too less. Six is too much.
There are five fingers in the human hand. Coincidence? I think not.
Ain't nothin' in the world like the rumbling of a low B string. _________________ I am Stingraymund. |
