Finger Playing

Waz cracken fellow bass players! As most of you know, I have been playing the bass guitar with a pick. Lately, I have been watching a lot of live performance's from bands I like, with dope bass players such as; Incubus. And, I can't help but notice that all the bass players I like play with there fingers. This has influenced me to learn how to play with my fingers. So, as of lately, I have been using my fingers and I am struggling. I was wondering if anybody on this forum knows of any good practice routines to help me build up my technique and finger speed? I feel like my fingering method is not very clean, and my hands are sluggish. I feel a lot quicker with a pick, but I rather play with my fingers. Any advice will help out, and dose anyone happen to know what bass guitar the bass player from Breaking Benjamin uses? oNe!

I'm not an expert at this stuff, but I'd suggest gettin the gripmaster.

It will strengthen your fingers so you can play a little faster. Also, in time your fingers will get harder, and you may get calluses(sp?). But that will help your fingers for playin later on.

hold a tennis ball in your fist and lift each finger SEPERATLEY example lift your index while keeping your other fingers ON the tennis ball then do the same wiht you middle ring and pinky do this while watching tv or whatever. thats what i used to do (havent done it in a while my fingers are pretty strong now) but this will strengthen your fingers quite alot a friend of mine has the gripmaster it is cool but i think the tennis ball thing would be just as good and its alot cheaper give it a try. and of course practice practice practice to build your speed. exercises can only build dexterity strength and endurance Very Happy

the best thing for you is practice.

your right Mkuk lol i just read over that sounded kinda pissy wasnt meant to be /\ssholeish just came out thta way i apologise. i dont mind posting things again if i did i wouldnt do it. i hate that when people on forums get pissed and say "hey dumass do a search" they should just not be a *sometimes angry female* about it and not answer them
