|
|
Ok, I won't make everyone tell me what they think is a good starter bass... I have been shopping for my first bass, and I have found that what really stands out to me is playing on something that has a narrow neck at the low end.
I am playing the neighbor kids DanElectro, I am not that impressed really. I played something called a "OLP,, or maybe LOP" this seemed to have an awkward sort of wide neck. Then of course I sat down with a
$1200.00 kick butt somethin or nuther bass. Point is that the neck was really narrow at the low end. Of course this felt really easy to reach for notes.
So can you all just tell me recommed a bass with a narrow neck for under $400.00 Also, please tell me what sort of stand out things I should stay away from in terms of maybe pick-ups, tuning pegs, etc.
This bass I am playing seems to buzz against the fretboard when I pluck the low E string. ( I am thinking maybe this means a warped neck??)
How do I look for such things?
Again, this isn't a call to recommend all your favorites, just tell me what things to look for. And what is a narrow necked bass model??
Thanks,
Chris |

Get a Fender P bass Special Squire. Got hold it. Some are better than others..I got a damned good one..look for neck made in Indonesia.
3 pickups...225 bucks.
Same neck design as the Jazz.
Preference 1999
I was offered 1200 for mine and turned it down. It sings and fitment is killer. _________________ Doing it the best I can with what I got to work with. No muff to tough...we dive at 5.

Fender Jazz basses have very narrow necks, and they're way to skinny for my hands, so maybe they'd be perfect for you.

| Go with a Jazz, you should be able to find a Standard Jazz (made in Mexico) for under $400. |

| Thinnest necks I've ever found are on the Ibanez SoundGear and Dean Edge. |

I would recommend a Fender Jazz or a Carvin LB-70, The older Guild Pilot basses are very thin too. Best of luck. Play them all, and let your hands be the judge. _________________ My life is based on a true story. |

Ibanez Soundgear has a great low end sound and realy thin necks.
If you play realy hard, make sure you have alllin wrenches. The screws on the bridge and volume knobs loosen easily. But the SR400s' are priced, I belive under or around $400. |

You got offered $1200 for a Squire???????
I will go with Gibby on this one. The necks on EBOs are a dream.
If you don't like the Gibsons than you might like a Jazz bass. _________________ Sometimes we ride on your horses

The Fender P-bass lyte deluxe is a great bass. They dont make them anymore but you can find them on ebay for around $400. They have a smaller p-style body with the jazz neck. They also have p-bass pick up in the neck and a soapbar in the bridge. And an active eq. I have one and i think its great. _________________ Fender P-Bass Lyte Deluxe, Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass, Ampeg SVT-3 Pro, Genz-Benz XB-2 410 |
