Hello all. I will formally introduce myself later but most of my practice involves listening to tracks and playing with them. I am 44 years old and am a Trombonist, been messing with the bass for about 22 years off and on. Mainly..a few gigs whjen called for otherwise, I lay tracks in my studio for mostly me...usually if I get a recording gig..it is to fix someones mistake and paste. I have a Fender Squire P bass special (after my FR jazz 65 got ripped off ) that I really found by accident. Purple, stays in tune, sounds wonderful, explotis my many techniques I use to mimic others work for punch ins quite well.
As far as a rig goes, A huge TOA amp, no effects (use studio efx during mixdown) and a two twelve lead cabinet for tone and my mixing desk has 44 D/I's so I just plug in channel 14 (my lucky number)
Ok...that is a good enough introduction for now..
I just cued up Gerry Rs' "right down the line" and I found that it took me about 30 mins to be able to play that bass line comfortably. It is pretty busy, not a monster./..but this is where my skill is on the bass. I got it now..but it took a few mins to get the groove, even though I know it well from hearing it a million times in the 70's.
What form of practice should I utilize to be able to move with confidence on something that is a shade harder than this one?
Seems like it takes me some serious concentration at first to get the speed up but then it flows.Dont tell me praqctice, I am doing that already..I just want to see what excersise I could do to get comfortable speed. I know where to go...just the track is faster than my hands using a certain tone technique with my right hand.
Anything you could tell me to help? _________________ Doing it the best I can with what I got to work with. No muff to tough...we dive at 5.

I use to be involved with a few forums with Hi Fi and Studio..but actually, it got old answering the same old same old daily when the answer was 3 posts down to the left and I am too old to really deal with stupid questions. I have been a moderator at 4 different forums and quit them all. Life is too short for the dog to chase its tail over and over...then you get the haters..ones that find your ip and calls you at 3AM.
No sir-ree, not for me.
My intrests now lie in my sports car, and inproving my bass playing.
I guess I used to be famous..well known around studio circles in the 70/80/90, s from London to muscle sholes to New Orleans to H wood.
That is done, I am independant, live alone with my Dog and gave it all up for sanity reasons.
That cover it good 'nuff?
My Name is Jose E'Mantez (LOL)
PM me if you figure out who I am otherwise I am NOBODY...just a cat getting by in these times like y'all are. Actually, I Ain't Nobody. (D neg)
I am just a West Florida redneck that has seen a lot of action in the music industry through the years. I will be happy to master anything you got on CD at a really cheap price...or else, I will sell all this equipment within a few months and buy a nice house.
Thanks for the nice welcome...lets keep it quiet..not let the bullys in here shall we? _________________ Doing it the best I can with what I got to work with. No muff to tough...we dive at 5.

| Do you still need that question from the first post of this topic answered? I don't think anyone read the whole post so they skipped over it, but I'd be glad to answer it if you want! |
