well, that's because they sound so good.
playing over an ampeg makes makes your choice of bass less important _________________ fender precision, zon legacy, hamer 12-string, ibanez musician fretless, ampeg svt2, peavey cs-400, peavey 1528, peavey 15 sub, ebs multidrive |

Ampegs makes the best tube-driven amps of this moment. Simply because of that it's no wonder all these guys play 'em!
Personally, I've had some experiences with SVT Classics and they all sounded way too cold. I used those besides my Ampeg SVT-II, so it was not a big problem...but too often the Classics are only there for the looks and nobody cares about biasing and setting the beast up properly. That's a shame!
No wonder a lot of people state that the new Classics sound like *Poop* in comparison to those from the 70ies!
IMHO, the SVT-II (nót the Pro) comes closest to the original sound of the SVT's from back in the days.
...And the 8x10" cabs are just Holy.
I like taco's, too. _________________ www.nubluz.com

while this is very true, i dont get all of the emphasis on power. to me its not important, while its important for YOU to be able to hear yourself while playing a gig, if all your relying on is the brute power of your amp and not sending it through the PA it will just bleed through the rest of the sound, and be completely uneven in the room(as the bass amp is rarely front and center)
while you are gettin great sound that seems to me to be a downfall of the SVT, unless your playing HUGE rooms where you need that kind of power to hear yourslef, but how many of us really are?(hypothetical)
i play through an Ampeg B-15N, and while its only 30 wattsits still plenty loud enough for me to hear, and wont bleed through while im playing on stage
but thats just my opinion, if you like it like that whatever
and Victor Wooten plays through an SVT-4PRO, which isnt tube, but its still mosfet, and built to have SVT sound, if hes not slap i dont know what is _________________ my love affair with ampeg... |
