What's your opinion on RD strings? I have yet to try them... Also what kind do you like best by them? _________________ Hey. |

I use DR's on my Gibson. I think they're called "Super Brights". I like 'em just fine. They do last a long time.
I buy them online at about $25.00 a set. Not much more than the GHS I use for my Fender.
As for tone. Honestly, I'm not the kind of dude to sit around and over analyze that kind of stuff. I think they sound great. I think my GHS Boomers sound great too. The reason I buy the DR's is because I have trouble finding other brands in the Extra Long scale that I need for my Gibson.
I've used DR's alot on my 6 strings too. I didn't find them to be any better or worse tone-wise than my trusty Boomers so I pretty much stick with GHS for those guitars because they've always been reliable and they're inexpensive. |

I've tried a number of different brands and sets, from d'addario XLs to slowounds to prisms, ghs, blue steel, warwick red labels, fender, SIT strings, a few others not worth recalling... But then i guess most bassists would have gone through the same thing
but when i put on DR hi-beams on my warwick 5 stringer, it played like a dream! If only i had discovered it earlier... wouldn't have wasted so much time and $ on the rest... Fact is i was skeptical at 1st, DRs being called ultra bright and all, and people saying they don't sound good... But it sure works for me. Nice bottom with low mids and hi mids aren;t overwhelming so no 'honky' sound, its bright without being brittle like d'addario prisms. Its nice even without eq and brings the growl out my warwick with ease... Nothing comes close to the feel and the tone, and the long life. At least no normal-priced (not expensive sets) strings that i've tried before...
You should try them out if you haven't, but of course not everyone will like it... And no i'm not endorsing or working for DR! I feel they're really my answer so i'd just share it here... |
