i liked ernie ball power slinkys. they were like the first strings i actually paid for, but then i purchased some regular slinkys and they wore out and had horrible buzz after like 2 and a half weeks. i also bought some ernie flatwounds, did'nt like em either, now i just use d'darrio (however you spell it) plain steel i don't like, i need nickel or atleast nickel coated. _________________ MY BASS

Play Roto's you fools
Ernie Balls do have a bit of a crazy *Horse's Patoot* budget feel to them IMO. I always squint when putting them on. I dont know if it's coincidence, but I find all strings made by guitar manufacturers are pretty below par. Maybe it's because they're not concentrating just on strings...who knows?
That said, I've only experienced Fender, Ernie Ball and Warwick.
Do Gibson make Strings, are they any good? _________________ Slap me silly! |

| My D popped, and so I just bought a pack of DR "Hi-Brites". They're only my second set of strings, so I can't really judge them so well, but they work decently enough. I'm not sure what kind of strings came on the bass, but they were much more muddy. The DRs are brighter, but I don't know how much is "New String Syndrome." On a high note, they make bass chords a whole hell of a lot clearer! |

| i love the powerslinkies though i hate all the rest. i guess Ernie cares more about the larger strings. personally i don't think there's any bottum to a light set of strings, which in my case are .105 and up. *Holy Censor, Batman* DO I love the powerslinkies though, better than GHS hevies |

Another newbie who doesn't know what the h#ll he's talking about.
Ernie Ball is a string and accessory company first and foremost. When the company first began (many moons ago) they made strings in custom guages and were the first custom-string company in the U.S. Ernie started as a retailer who decided to try his hand at string manufacture when his customers came in and complained that they prefer the strings to be a different size. Over the years, Ernie Ball has perfected the art and business of string making and that remains their top focus.
The company YOU'RE thinking of is Music Man, which was making guitars and basses YEARS before it got bought out by Ernie Ball. Ernie Ball bought the company in order to expand their business practice, so the guitar/bass production is handled by the Music Man people... it's a completely different venture that is owned legally by Ernie Ball, but it has nothing to do with Ernie Ball strings.
That would be like saying Time Magazine sucks because Warner Bros. is too busy shooting movies. |

Cheesy gimmicks!! Don't get me started! I bought a twin pack of strings on the strength that they were contained in some "tarnish proof" packaging!! When I opened them, they were just in a cheap piece of plastic that was shrink wrapped!!! Put my finger straight through it, I did!!!
Never again!
They were not DR 's by the way... _________________ Alright!
