....last week on my P Bass, and I thought it would be cool to post the first new topic here.
Anyway, I'm glad I changed my strings. It had been awhile and boy does my P kill again. Nothing like a fresh set.

I care, dammit! I CARE!
*whew* breathe deep....
Anyway, I like fresh strings to a certain extent. When first put them on, they sound a bit too "chimey" and "metallic" for my liking. They sound new and improved, but I need a little while to wear them in before they have that warmth.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not like one of those psychos that uses the same strings for fifty years and refuses to change them. But I think there's a sweet spot... somewhere between first putting them on and them going completely dead where the sound PERFECT. New, yet used enough that they feel at home. |

| I hear ya. They can be a little twangy at first. I have to dial in that warmth on my amp to make up for it. |

I just slapped some SIT pressurewounds on the EB-0, sounds pretty good... I kinda like dead flatwounds on the EB, though...adds to the mud & sounds killer with some fuzz...kinda like sitting nekkid in a mud puddle & letting out a fart ... _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

The admin has not made me or Rufio a moderator in most of these new forums yet, but I don't see a double post.
Anyway, I've always used Ernie Ball Slinkys and I like them but am I missing out on something? I play rock/funk/slap bass, what's a good kind of strings to try? I don't think price is an issue. Anyone have a recommendation? |

| Well, Elixirs cost a butt-load of money, but they have this coating that lasts an eternity. I think it's kind of a gimmick, but a lot of people swear by them. |

Elixirs on my bass strayed all over the place...and Kaffman set it up(da axe)...not a good combo for me...waste of time..and I got my money back and a 50% discount on the next try...that should tell you something...right there...overdone.

| Elixirs on my bass started fraying badly in short order. I didn't like them at all. I use Blue Steel. |

I just through a set of D'Addario EXP160 on one of my four strings, good sound, good feel.
But I want to know if anyone else has used them for an extended amount of time. They claim to be EXtended Play coated, to make them last longer and sound better!?! |

Sounds very gimmicky to me, all these coatings etc . Surely with a weeks abuse, the coating on the underside will have worn off through rubbing on the frets???
I say, just pick a set that suits your playing style and be prepared to change them regular. |

I agree, with all the companies claiming they are adding "special things" to strings.
I got the set for free from my friend's web site so I could test them out and give him my opinion.
Just looking for anyone else who has used them. |
