what are the advantages to getting the Amp and Cab as opposed to a Combo Amp? Right now I have a combo but i want to up grade to more watts and im not sure what you get out of the separate Amp and Cab combination.

I perfer Head and Cab because you don't always have to replace the whole rig, you can replace one or the other. It depends on how big an amp setup you want, and what your gonna use it for.

I like head and cab. Gives you more options.

thanks for the replies, but what do you mean by head and cab gives you more options? and is the head and cab worth the extra money it costs?

Well say I have a head that runs at 8 or 4 ohms...I want 4x10 cab...no I want a 4x12 cab and a 2x15 cab....You can make what ever combo you want but you can't have more than 2 cabs. With a combo you always have to have the one speaker unless you pull the amp out and make it a head.

Yeah Trace Elliot is pretty dam good (I'm going to get kicked out for this vulgarity). Anyways I tried one out and it got really great funk and slap tone. Plus it had enough wattage to power an extension cab as well. I don't think they're commando series is that great though.

nah, wasnt impressed with the commandos...mines a Series 6 GP7 pushin 300watts into 4 ohms...Its wayyy too clean for my tastes,though...but its loud as all heck...know anyone that has a tube combo (i.e. an old bassman) they might wanna trade? Twisted Evil maybe I shoud ask in the "Gear for Sale" forum...

well this may sound stupid, but if you have a one combo amp, and it has a lot of wattage, your pretty much set. if having more sound really matters (but you don't need anymore power that is) then you can line out from your amp and then go into the input of the next and keep linking it!! stupid little thought of mine to finish up this thread.
