| I started playing bass like 6-7 years ago. Before that I played in a high school band. So I do know some music theory. I however do not know any guitar/bass theory. I have always just played by ear and wrote music that sounded right. I would really like to get into learning more theory though. Is there any websites or books that I could get to help me. I would really like to find websites or a good book that could help. It would also be awesome if it had examples using a 5-String bass. |

There are some posts in the "Theory" section on this sight that outline exactly what you need to learn .
If you remeber there are three chord funtions (ii-V-I) , nine chord families , about twenty scale sources, 119 chord progressions and several song forms you have an idea of what you need to cover. With that in mind ,you can visit all the sites and read all the books-if you don't understand that there are three chord funtions and know what they are and there are nine chord families and have them memorized ,have the main scale sources under your fingers and aren't familiar with the 119 chord progressions-you missed the essence of modern harmony. _________________ Garry Goodman
