I've got a pretty simple problem that I can't seem to solve. I purchased a BassPOD a few months ago and played around with it till I got 4 or 5 sounds that I really like but on 2 of them I have a terrible 'hiss' when I change position on the neck. I have the compression almost maxed out to add sustain and that seems to be the cause of my problem. I have a Dean acoustic bass that has the same problem but is solved with the "presence" control. I was wanting some suggestions on how to take the 'bite' off the strings without having to switching to the toneless flat wounds.

It sounds like you've answered your own question. Take it easy on the compression. Too much of anything could be causing unwanted noise. Just try tweaking until you get a clean signal. If it's only a couple of patches that "hiss" then I suspect the problem lies in certain parameter levels.
