Well, having just acquired my first Gibson bass, I'd have to say that I like it best!! I've had several Epi over the last couple years and have played numerous Gibsons in local shops. I just was never hooked by the sound or tone of the new LP or T-Birs basses I played. They just didn't seem to match up properly to my Ampeg rig.
Recently, I noticed a older EB-650 at a local shop, House of Guitars. It had been hanging there since 1992. No one ever bought. Lots of folks played it, but it just didn't move. I plugged it into an Ampeg and it was an incredible sound! With Pyrimid flats on it, the tone is clear and deep, no mushiness at all. This is one great bass. You may not like the looks, but the sound coming out of this thing is awesome! |

My friend just bought a Gibson RD bass. It is a heavy, bulky bass but pretty cool. The electronics are kinda messed up so I haven't really heard it yet. _________________ Sometimes we ride on your horses

I kind of like a modern tone. I sold my EB-0, Grabber and Bass V, I currently have a '98 Les Paul and a '00 SG-Z. These will always be keepers. Both have very different voices, and it's always nice to have more flexibility with tone options. _________________ My life is based on a true story. |

I used to play a Rick 4001 and play with a pick but I needed more bottom end so I bought an Epiphone EB3. Unfortunately bottom end is pretty much all it does, and muddy at that, so I also bought a '00 SG-Z and it produces just the right blend of pick-driven bite and full-on flatulent bottom end that I was looking for. Also really powerful passive pickups, beautiful sustain, very light, a real player's bass.
I haven't played many Gibson basses but I rate the SG-Z far and above my Rickenbacker and Spector basses so I should be trying a lot more in the future.
Of course if I wasn't playing full-on Stoner/Doom rock, Gibsons might not be the most suitable! |

In my opinion the RD Artist Active bass is the best Gibson bass ever made. I have played the Ripper, the Thunderbirds and the EB's, but the RD is my Favorite. |

I have a 1996 Custom Shop Les Paul Standard (Passive) with a Premium Plus Top. She's my baby
I also have a 1992 Les Paul Special... he's my workhorse.
I really want an SG-Z but I can't find one anywhere....
I was saving my money for one and by the time I had enough.. they were discontinued and I couldn't find one.
Anyway... I am a Gibson Bassist through and through.... nice to know there are more of us. |
