one etc. eigth notes-they are cool indeed.
Eigth notes are 2 notes that are played in the space of 1 quarter note. In every bar or measure ,there is always twice as many eigth notes as quarter notes .
When we see a TIME SIGNATURE on sheet music ,we see a fraction that tells us how many notes in a bar/measure (the top note ) and the number on the bottom is going to tell uss the value of the note we are using as a pulse that can tap our foot to.
You will se TIME SIGNATURES like 4/4 ,3/4 ,5/4 ,3/8 .5/8 etc.
Common time or 4/4 means the pulse or beat or foot tap (bottom number) will be a quarter note ,and you will count 4 foot taps/beats per bar. So "one two three four" over and over again as we move through the song.
If you play two notes evenly over each of the bottom numbers ,you will be playing eitgh notes. This means you will be fitting 8 notes into each bar/measure.
Basically , you can either play both eith notes over the foot tap ,just the first eitgh and "rest " on the second ,or play the second eith note and reat on the first.
Say 1 and 2 and 3 and 4and / 1 and 2 and 3 and 4and /
tap 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4
to experience Eigth notes -tap foot ,say "one and ' evenly over foot tap . Coni=tinue with "2 and" etc.
next clap" one and " or just "one" or just "and" or try clapping just the "ands"
This will get you involoved with the eigth note. _________________ Garry Goodman
