when you say one guitar, do you mean one acoustic, one electric, or one bass? i think anything sounds bad if you have just one electric/acoustic and no bass. the musical balance is not right. besides, without the bass you lose a lot of your rhythem.

Inside Looking Out, Mean Mistreater, Closer to Home, American Band... studios do nothing for this band...if you wanna see the true power of GFR, check out Grand Funk Live-- It was a life changing experience for me. Made me change my playing style 2 years into playing! I was a slap-funk meister, now Im an overdrivin` lead bass meister... Twisted Evil you have to check it out... If youre into downloading music, the live version of "Inside Looking Out" is their magnum opus....

Yeh, I'm playin electric guitar in a band at the moment, and there's just three of us; me, the bassist and the drummer.

We often find its a problem keeping a 'big' sound when i play guitar solos or lead parts. All we've found to do is set the EQ on the bass amp for a pretty thick sound, and maybe use a little distortion, chorus or flanger so that the bass sound is big enough for the lack of a rhythm guitar not to matter.

Still, it's not great....any suggestions appreciated.

the best bands i had were trios...bass-drum-guitar, 'cause it is way easier to build a strong communication between members, and that 2 guitarists is often a problem->guitarist are picky!!!it is often a duel between two guitarists... and for the solos, a great bass player know what to do to fill the lack of cumping!!! (i often play chords, slap, or simply more than one notes at a time to sub the "lack of chords")
However, more than one guitar in studios gives great effects; the mix of electric (both clean and distortion) and /or acoustics (6 or 12 strings) and /or special effects is really cool...but most of time, the results are better when all done by the same player...personnal opinion!!! Razz
