There not a HUGE difference in the two. Here's the specs as I know them
Standard P - fatter, rounder neck. Single offset humbucker pickup, volume and tone controls. very simple, very comfortable, classic tone.
Standard J - thinner, tapered neck - may be easier to play for smaller hands, two single coil pickups, body is sort of a "warped" version of the P.
Essentially they are both excellent basses. It's more a matter of personal taste. You have to go play one or two of each and get a feel for them. You may get a little more tonal range out of the Jazz because of it's two pickups, but again, they are both great instruments. Happy shopping! |
