hey i really want an acoustic bass just so i can relax once and a while and sit on the couch and practice amp free but what im getting at is would it work to take a larger scale acoustic guitar (i know th frets would be small and im willing to deal with that) and put a bass bridge on it or just modify the existing one with a drill and play bass through it or would some thing go wrong?
what do you guys think? would i be better off just buying an acoustic bass? or doing this? _________________ GreyFox

I think you'd be better off getting an acoustic bass guitar. I doubt you could modify an acoustic guitar to work correctly with bass strings. You would have to change machineheads, nut, frets, bridge, etc. anyway, wouldn't you? _________________ "You'll have to speak louder, I'm wearing a towel." -- Homer Simpson |

I know you already made your decision, but let me just add that I once put steel strings on a classical guitar, and even that was too much of a tension shock! The poor thing broke into about six pieces. _________________ Alright!

heh heh that sucks in fact i did not completly make up my mind im gogin to get a 4x10 cab and a head to power it (not even sure what i want there but that's another decision) and if my wallet is still breathing after that i'm going to get an acoustic (not sure what kind yet either) to be truthful with you man i am very indecisive when it comes to bass...ask me in a month and i may have changed my mind again definatly want a decent 4x10 though. _________________ GreyFox

acoustics are awesome...I made alot of money in Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Diego, Sacramento & San Francisco on an acoustic bass as a street performer. That was a blast! Other performers would have guitars fiddles, harps etc. & we`d have a street jam!!! _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

to raise an old issue from the dead, but how did the acoustic go volume wise???
the few that I have played have, I have had trouble hearing them over people talking in the same building! _________________ Alright!

depends on the bass... some are pretty loud, but alot of them are as you said, extremely quiet.. pretty much, try em all out & there is loud ones out there _________________ --==Warum tut es weh, wenn ich pinkele?==-- |

I am always a little worried that if I started to slap on them, the neck would snap away from the body! But I guess they're designed for a much more mellow sound, anyway, so why would someone want to go slapping one? _________________ Alright!

im a *Horse's Patoot* i would slap on a acoustic i still have not got my 4x10 or an acoustic i have had major major financial woes i now have less than $200 to my name 200 doesnt sound bad being 16 huh? i did have the money for a GOOD 4x10 that tells you how bad my woes were.
i'm thinking about blowing off the rig for a while and picking up an acoustic. i might go and play a few i played a really nice takamine at sam ash a while back think it was only like 180 not bad for a good acoustic brand.
throw down some more opinions i value your guys opinions! _________________ GreyFox
