What is a good bass guitar for me (a member in a funk/jazz band)
Has to be around $1000 or lower. |

Are the S.U.B. Ernie Ball basses any good?
How are they different from the Stingrays, cause I know they make an active version of the S.U.B. for like $700. |

The only reason I mentioned a StingRay in the first place is because
1) they're excellent, high-quality basses. Although they're not cheap, they're certainly not as expensive as a hand-crafted 3000 dollar "boutique" bass. They're a very nice middle-ground and ideal for a professional-level bass player that's not making rock star money.
2) they're suited for jazz and funk. They work very very well for rock and metal, but the low action and smooth playability make them popular for popping, slapping and fingerstyle in general.
SUBs.... well, I've never played them before. But I've never touched a Music Man product I didn't like. If they were anything short of great basses, I would be genuinely surprised. |
